WWB's stated mission is:
to introduce exciting international writing to the general public—travelers, teachers, students, publishers, and a new generation of eclectic readers—by presenting international literature not as a static, elite phenomenon, but a portal through which to explore the world. With vibrant photos, compelling book recommendations, and international lit-blog links, the site is a book-lover's candy store. My immediate reactions:
- Love the title That Awful Mess on the via Merulana; but will it be too violent for my weak heart?
- Since Pippi Longstalking was my childhood hero, I am intrigued by Arnon Grunberg's claim that author Astrid Lindgren's superior creation was Karlsson-On-The-Roof, whom he describes as "the best example of a benign anarchist."
- Must read Literature From the Axis of Evil.
